Natural-based solutions to protect Sevan Lake

Natural-based solutions to protect Sevan Lake

The project was implemented under the Probleu project, aiming to strengthen students’ capacities as young “environmental scientists” dedicated to protecting the Lake Sevan ecosystem. Students from Karmirgyugh N1, Gavar N2, and Gegharkunik secondary schools gained practical experience in freshwater conservation, organic agriculture, and nature-based wastewater treatment solutions through seminars and a study visit to “Chirs House,” an organic greenhouse in Byurakan.

As a result, an Educational Greenhouse was built at Karmirgyugh N1 School, where students explore water-saving technologies, rainwater harvesting and composting systems, the growth of water-efficient crops and nitrogen-phosphorus–fixing plants, as well as organic fertilization and pest-management methods.

The project strengthens collaboration among schools and promotes organic agriculture as a nature-based solution for improving the ecological condition of Lake Sevan.
